Salaam all,8:28
وَاعْلَمُواْ أَنَّمَا أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَأَوْلاَدُكُمْ فِتْنَةٌ وَأَنَّ اللّهَ عِندَهُ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ
WaiAAlamoo annama amwalukum waawladukum fitnatun waanna Allaha AAindahu ajrun AAatheemun
The Aya says:
And be Aware that your belongings and your children are but a big test and that there are great rewards at Allah’s
My person note:
It tells us to beware get lost in the things that we like in this life to forget our more important target and that is our relationship with Allah. That is why our money and children can be a test if they distract us from Allah.
Translation of the transliterated words:
waiAAlamoo: and know (plural)/ know for fact/ Be aware
Note: WA here is to resume a sentence. iAALAMOO is derived from the root Ain-L-M and it means knowing/knowledge or knowledge of facts. iAALAMOO is an order or a request addressed to a group. It means: know or know for fact.
Annama: they are nothing but/ they are only
Amwalukum: your belongings/ your wealth
Note: the root is M-W-L and it means what a person owns of gold and silver. This is used to mean anything owned or just money. AMWALU means money of or belongings of/ wealth of. KUM is plural you.
Waawladukum: and your children/ and your offspring
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better. AWLAD is derived from the root W-L-D and it means giving birth or conceiving. AWLADU are products of giving birth of. KUM means plural you.
fitnatun: a test/ a severe test/ a trial
Note: the root is F-T-N and it means in concrete form, the melting of Gold or silver in order to know the pure from the impure or the true from the fake. Therefore, in abstract, the word suggests an extreme test with hardship in it, or a burn with fire or even taking someone’s eyes with the glitter of the false Gold and silver. Here, it means the severe test or trial. FITNATUN means testing and trialing.
Waanna: and that
Allaha: Allah
AAindahu: at His
Ajrun: compensation/ reward/ payback
Note: AJRAN is derived from the root Hamza-J-R and it means compensation for work done. AJRUN means compensation of work or just compensation or reward.
AAatheemun: great
Note: the root is Ain-TH-M and it means great/hard/strong. The concrete word is AAaTHM and that is the bones or the hard/strong/firm core of things. AAaTHEEM means great.
Salaam all and have a great day
Hussein
